Largest Ship in the World

Well, I guess I finally took the time to post something like this. I am fascinated with many things such as airplanes, cars, and ships. One thing that led me to post this thread was the discovery of the largest ship in the world. I always knew that the largest ship would be an Oil Tanker. However, I never thought it would be that big. Being a fan of Cruise Ship's I understand how big ships can get. Nevertheless, this thing is big.

The biggest ships in the world is apparently the Knock Nevis

I think it is no longer in service, but the ship itself is huge. It displaces 564,763 tons. That is way more than the upcoming mega ship that Royal Caribbean is going to build that will come in at around 220,000.

Take a look at some of these pictures. If you can find more of it I would be appreciative if they were to be posted.

To me thinking about something this big is just incredible and scary. I would not want to be close to this ship if I was in the water.

Yea, I've seen that. It is unbelievable.
Though, it must be a big challenge to engineers to build such a big ship, there are so many things to pay attention to and not to screw up.

Imagine the high quality steel and welding techniques needed to keep this ship together on the rough seas and in general.

Re: Largest Ship in the World

Holy crap that thing is huge. These huge tankers may appear to be moving slow but they haul. I would know i was once sailing a small boat and i almost got run over because i couldnt get out of its way fast enough in heavy winds
Wonder how fast this thing can go, it sure is a technological feat.

Re: Largest Ship in the World

It is very hard to have one of these big boys come to a complete stop.

The one thing that fascinates me is that this ship is so big, how can the flexing that is caused by the ocean be maintained. The ship itself flexes.
