My Next Purchase: 12-24mm

(Hopefully) It is quite expensive, But when I was shooting landscapes on my trip, I could feel the pain of not having a wide angle lens.

smc P-DA 12-24mm F4.0 ED/AL (IF)
I have found one for about $650 on the web, but I am going to go check some local stores and see what they have.

Re: My Next Purchase: 12-24mm

Update:

Went to a local camera shop, they didn't have one in stock but said they would probably sell for about $519 when they got it in, which is a whole lot better than the $700-$800 I have been seeing elsewhere.

Re: My Next Purchase: 12-24mm

I have a Petax K100d.

I've looked at the Sigma lenses, but I wasn't as impressed as I was with the Pentax glass, and I want this to be a long term investment, as it will be my primary lens, so I'll pay the premium price for it.

I haven't really looked at anything wider than this 12-24 because I really dont want the fisheye effect. And as far as I know, the only other wide angle Pentax offers are the 14mm an I think a 10mm.

Re: My Next Purchase: 12-24mm

cool, hope you find a good deal. i've had my sigma 10-20mm for awhile now and shooting in wide angle is pretty fun. especially great for when you want that overly dramatic feel.

since we're on the topic of lenses, my gf recently gave me a 50mm f/1.8 for my birthday. upside, great for dof and very fast. downside, no zoom i'll post some sample pics later.

Re: My Next Purchase: 12-24mm

Well, finally found a great deal on the lens, $500, so I bought it yesterday. Which is great since today I just arrived in Sanibel Island, Florida, so It will be put to use immediately.

Great lens Jeff . 12mm -- that should be fun to experiment with. What is the angle of view of a 12mm lens?
