Canon on a F___ing Roll!!!!!!!!

Digital camera sales up 6% in first quarter 2007
Ellis Vener, May 17, 2007; 12:51 a.m.

Total digital camera sales were up by 4.9 million in the first quarter of 2007 according to CNET.
The new camera sales pie divides this way: Canon has the largest slice with 21%, Sony 16%, Kodak 13%, Samsung 11%, and Nikon dropped to 7th place with only 7% of new sales.
According to IDC analyst Christopher Chute, "Nikon was seventh with a share of 7 percent, down from 13 percent a year ago. They did well with DSLRs, but not so well with compacts."

Canon have always done well, but seem to be running away!

I think it's a bad move by Nikon to basically forget about compact cameras. I way I see it is you get people hooked on the cheap compact cameras, and when they want to get an SLR they'd buy the same brand, and SLRs are where all the profit is!

Re: Digital Camera Sales - 1st Quarter 2007

I don't think Nikon is doing anything wrong. As a matter of fact, many of the Nikon DSLR owners, such as myself, feel that Nikon is shooting for the lower end market to grab those that are about to enter the DSLR sector. Nikon may never have anything over Canon simply because of the size of the company and how many units they produce. It is simply logical to see that Nikon is a smaller company than Canon and does not have the capital to move in one direction, or multiple ones, at one time.

Either way, Canon is a great company and they seem to not have let down those that are buying compacts.
