The Rolleiflex 6008 is a great versatile camera. It is actually also relatively cheap as you have shown above it is the Haselblad CF-39 digital back which is so damn expensive.

Personally I prefer a Hasselblad camera -- I just like the feel of them more which is why I own one -- if I won a lottery I would buy one of those digital backs for it

I have no experience nor knowledge of neither, sort of. But the Rollei is medium format camera while a Hasselblad is a large format. But maybe the digital back changes that?

Anyway, I'd go for a Hasselblad H3D, 39mp. As you can see, I like to dream and I would like to be like Bingo (Swedes know what I mean)

They are both Medium Format cameras Zonda. This relates to the size film they use -- Medium format cameras use rolls of film with frame sizes 6X4.5cm, 6X6cm, or 6X7cm -- you can remove the camera back which holds the film (film back) and replace it with a digital one (like the one you posted above).

Large Format cameras are bigger, they use large sheets of film. However, most large format cameras will also allow the use of the medium format camera backs including the digital ones. See here

The Hasselblad H3D you posted is a fantastic medium format camera because it is more like an AF 35mm SLR -- the normal Hasselblad cameras are very old fashioned and do not even have a built-in light meter.

Thanks for the clarification. Knew that about the film size but I thought the H3D used a bigger film size. I still have so much more to learn

No problem Zonda ....it can be pretty confusing.

The H3D is designed to be almost exclusively a digital camera. It comes with the H3D-39 digital camera back which is technically identical to the CF-39 you posted above (the CF-39 is designed for use with older Hasselblad cameras ...and other brands like the Rolleiflex you posted above) -- the only difference is, it is designed specifically for use with the H3D camera.

The H3D camera can also shoot film -- just remove the H3D-39 (camera back) and replace it with the HM 16-32 (with Medium format film shooting negatives 6X4.5cm)

I don't think many pros would ever shoot film on the H3D, it is primarily designed as a professional digital camera.

For the highest resolution digital images you need a larger format camera with a scanner back attached.

Obviously, with a view camera like this, you can easily attach a normal medium format digital back like the Hasselblad one above ...but you can also attach a scanner back.

Digital scanning backs do not capture an image of the subject all at once like a "one shot" sensor in a DSLR , but rather by physically moving a unique, highly-optimized trilinear color image sensor smoothly across the image plane, building up the image one line per color at a time.

This takes time (from a few seconds to several minutes) which obviously means that scanner backs are not suitable for moving subjects. However, they offer the highest resolution digital images available commercially.

With a scanner back, the shutter (which is usually in the lens in these types of cameras) is not required because the exposure is controlled by the software used by the scanner. The scanner is usually attached to a PC.


Here is an example of the resolution offered by a digital scanner compared with a normal "one shot" DSLR.
