Nikon D3 & D300 are official!

Looks real guys!

Well there have been countless threads for several months now on what Nikon is working on if anything at all. I must say that reading both Nikon, Canon, Fuji and Sony forums, everyone seems to be excited to know what it is. Although Canon just recently introduced a 20 or so megapixel camera, I feel that many want to know what Nikon is bringing out. There have been many guesses as to whether it will be only a PRO DSLR or if there will be a D200 upgrade/replacement. Thom Hogan (bythom.com) which reviews photographic equipment and is considered an extremely credible source, recently posted somewhat of a small little journal addressing what Nikon could be taking out. He essentially hinted at something being presented on 08/23/2007—a date that has been in many peoples eyes for quite some time. You see, Thom Hogan, like many other reviewers out there of photographic equipment, sometimes know things before they are released. Nevertheless, their credibility is only as good as their trust in keeping things very quiet until it is perfect, or permissible to let go.

You can see so many threads on dpreview.com about a guy mentioning that a Nikon rep passed by his local photography store and said that the D3 was coming out and it would be a FF. Knowing that Canon just recently introduced a camera with 20 megapixel, I doubt Nikon will be responding with that much. Actually, it is rumored that the camera(s), if any, that is going to be introduced tomorrow is for sports. Essentially the competitor to the 1d Mark III with 10 fps. Sony and Nikon have worked together before in creating sensors for their cameras. Only recently did Sony announce they were developing a 12 megapixel sensor with a very high fps. Could this be the sensor that we will see on the Nikon camera presented tomorrow that will compete with Canon? Who knows.

The point of this thread is to share with you the anxiety and nervousness I have about what Nikon is going to do. Nikon, for many, has not been the pro quality camera builder that it should have been since the days of film. Some people this happened after Nikon ‘dropped the ball.’ Nevertheless, I believe that Nikon is just as good as or even better than Canon. You see, Nikon is not as big as Canon and probably never will be. In many sectors of the industry, Nikon outperforms Canon. If not do the research. Nikon has sold more D200’s than Canon has sold of the 30D. More D80’s have been sold than the 400D. The list can possibly go on. In conclusion, people should not that it is not whether Canon or Nikon is better, is that these two brands have excellent equipment that anyone of us would be more than glad to have/own. If Nikon introduces something spectacular it will only be good for the consumer because it will push Canon. I hope tomorrow Nikon presents a camera that many of use have been anticipating. Let’s see if it even happens…

Re: Nikon D3

Who knows.

I do know this:

Many european sites for Nikon are down. This is odd since one could be down, but many of them? such as Germany, UK, France, and I can't remember the rest.

There are important photojournalist in Japan today, and at around 1pm there should be an announcement. Dpreview.com is going crazy with thread after thread of speculation. Nothing has popped up yet, but the anticipation is getting worse and worse.

Re: Nikon D3

I am really really impressed too. I really did not expect a 9fps full frame camera!
Really can't wait for comparison tests. And even more, test them both myself

Re: Nikon D3 & D300 are official!

I don't understand why the sensitivity of the D300

• Default: ISO 200 - 3200
• Boost: ISO 100 - 6400
• 1/3, 1/2 or 1.0 EV steps

what means by Boost to ISO100 ? and the lowest default is ISO200? it is due to the high 12.3megapixel?

Re: Nikon D3 & D300 are official!

I wonder that too.

200 seems a bit high, and why do they have to "boost" it to 100?
Same with the 1d mk2, you have to boost it to ISO50.
