![]() The D300 has some great features and it will be interesting to see the results in some images. I am not up to speed on it but isn't the price about $500 more than the 40D? For that amount it should provide some excellent IQ in all modes. | |

![]() | Dynamic Range The DR capability looks pretty good from this shot. Bright morning sun and deep dark shade. Highlights are good as well as low noise level in the shaded areas. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Canon 40D I like what I see Jack. I can't wait for the D300. Since the D200 will stay in the production, some say it envelopes the 40D with the D300. We will see.... |

![]() | Bird (not in flight) Birds are hard to find here and the variety is very small. Found this lone one in a pine tree off the patio yesterday. Shot at 300mm at 1/5000, f/5.6, ISO 1600. Shot in sRAW which is a new Canon RAW format but a smaller file..only about 2.5 MB's or so. Lighting was difficult because he was deep in the tree. The sun shinning through an opening looks like a spot light on him. ![]() |

![]() | Re: Bird (not in flight) I wanted to make sure I had good exposure at wide open to maintain the shallowest DOF. Had the sun not been coming through the pine as a spotlight, then my shutter speed would have been a lot slower. With the low noise, even at 1600, I wanted to make sure if he moved I had plenty of shutter speed to catch it. I was using A1 Focus mode. |
