Nikon D40 budget DSLR pics leaked

A few days ago, two mysterious images of a Nikon D40 appeared on the website of German electronics retailer Neckermann. Although the posting has since been removed, that hasn't stopped Digital SLR enthusiasts from poring over the images and the specifications (6 megapixel CCD, 3 point focusing, and the absence of an auto focus motor and a status LCD), both of which suggest that this camera will be aimed at the bottom end of Nikon's DSLR line-up -- if it actually exists, that is. While elitists may moan at the potentially limited feature set, anything that blurs the line between consumer and pro-level cameras is fine by us, especially if it reduces prices.

Re: Nikon D40 budget DSLR pics leaked

Wow. I never thought this would happen. What is Nikon up to? How many DSLR's are they going to offer?

What then will happen to the D50?

As it is right now they have the D50 D70s D80 D200 D2hs and D2Xs

now a D40? However, if they cut the D70s from the lineup, which I am sure they will, and upgrade the D50 to fill the gap, then I guess it would make sense.

Yeah, a D40 is something I never really expected. It seems Nikon wants to create a more accessible DSLR for the average man. I guess it kind of makes sense.

Sort of like what the 300D was a few years ago to the world of SLR's.

Believe it or not, I think they want to market more to the women than men. I have noticed that a lot of women photographs start off with the lower end DSLR, and in Nikon doing this, they would further facilitate this area. This may not be true from Nikon, however.

Ah, well, by 'man', I meant in a broad sense.

However, I know what you mean. Several women I know have DSLR's, all of them being 300/350D's.
