Computer Help

Hello. Does anyone know how to upgrade the BIOS on the computer? I thought you would have to download the upgrade and put it on a floppy disk and restart the computer. Unfortunately I do not have a floppy disk drive.

Anyone?

That's how things went down a couple of years ago. The way it's done these days is that you burn the file onto a CD, assuming that your computer can boot from a CD, which is probably can. Then there is the option of putting the file on a USB memory, but not all computers can boot from a USB storage.

Well, I burned the bios onto a cd and I could never get my computer to boot from it. Also tried it with a usb.

Re: Computer Help

You need to make the CD bootable. There should be an option for that in the burning software.

You may also need a separate BIOS flash program (which should be available at the website of the manufacturer of your mainboard), unless the file you downloaded is an executable.

May I ask why you want to upgrade the BIOS?

I have a SOYO motherboard. My compute randomly turns off and turns back on. It is really weird. According to Microsoft, that little error report that pops up at the beginning of the computer when something goes terribly wrong, says that the bios needs to be updated.

Re: Computer Help

I don't understand this damn thing. I went ahead and burned a CD that is bootable and nothing happened. I am suppose to see some sort of acknowledgement that bios is being upgraded right? If so, I have not been able to successfully upgrade my bios.

I don't seem to have the option of being able to boot directly from the CD.
