This is a rant.

My mom's new computer has Windows Vista and I must say it sucks balls. The layout and interface is ok, but what really annoys me is the unreliable Internet Explorer program. On my personal computer, I use Mozilla Firefox but my mom doesn't want me to download it unto her computer. At any rate, Internet Explorer on Windows Vista is an unreliable POS. It always hangs, crashes and fails to open some threads - unless you keep clicking it. Today I translated the W204 C320 CDI T-Modell article from Autozeitung for germancarforum. As I hit the "SUBMIT" button, the f*cking Internet Explorer hangs - and I loose everything. I mean what the f***? Damn you Bill Gates and your bullshit.

Now, my mom's new computer is a Dell laptop. And like all Dell computers my family has ever owned, it is an unreliable POS. Today it broke down and refuses to start up again. I feel like slamming this POS against the wall.

I hate Dell with a passion. My computer is a Dell M60 laptop: 2 graphic card failures, 2 hard disk failures and one faulty keyboard. My sister has owned 2 Dell laptops. Her first one had (get this!) 6 hard disk failures within 2 months. Her second one is better, but has also broken down numerous times, hard disk problems.

Wow, off topic. But yeah, I hate Windows Vista. Windows XP to me is fine. My Windows XP is more responsive than my mom's new Windows Vista program. At any rate, time to call the friggin Dell support hotline. I know the damn number by heart already...

Your mom needs to get FireFox ASAP. Every since I discovered FF I've never used IE again. IE is crappy as hell and crashes very often. Further more it doesn't have the recover feature like FF.

Sorry for the Dell horror experience, sound awful. My HP laptop was picked up earlier this week for service, 3rd freaking time. Next year I'll most likely buy a desktop to compliment the laptop. Laptops regardless of manufacturer are not as solid as desktops, fragile, expensive to repair and are overall more prone to failure than desktops.

In general Dell are a good choice when it comes to laptop since they offer unrivaled service for those willing to pay for it.

Try Safari for Windows (Apple - Safari 3 Public Beta - Download). It works much better for me in Vista/XP than IE.

Strange. I hated XP, but I have been using Vista for a while now, and I think it is brilliant! I don't know why there is a general negative opinion about it, I haven't had a single problem with it at all yet. Very very very pleased with it! But wimmer, I have to admit, IE is useless - discovered that when using XP. I use Firefox now, I tried Safari for a while, but prefer Firefox.
I am not a Windows fan or a Mac fan, but I would definitely pick Vista over Mac OS X. OS X is nice, but as with all apple products, Leopard has been over-hyped. Its just the same thing with a few extra features... apart from spaces and stacks etc, what are the rest of these '300 exciting new features'... security updates? lol... Still like OS X though...

The diverse experiences many people are having with Vista is mostly due to the specs of each PC... and there are literally thousands if not millions of different configs out there, even within same PC brands...

I can only advise you to get a Mac. That's what I'm doing when the time comes to get a new laptop.
BTW why doesn't your mother want to use Firefox?
