Re: Macbook Air!

Very Freakin' Hot!!! Just saw it on the Apple site, starting at $1700. All the way up to $3300. If I was in the market, this would be the machine!!!

Re: Macbook Air!

I'm disappointed and expected something better from Apple. Although it's thin, it isn't small. Sony and Asus has 12 inch laptops which are truly ultra portable and fit in small bags in which the Air doesn't. Further more those laptops come with an external optical drive included in the box.

This is really nothing but a sliced macbook with a high premium. Worst of all is that the battery isn't user replaceable which is blasphemy for an laptop which is meant to run on battery for the most of the time. Like with all laptops the battery will need to be changed after 1-1.5 years, especially if it's meant to be used on the go. Apple is deteriorating and stepping further away from the core values of consumer electronics, they focus to much on marketing and generating buzz. I think that is going to cost them in the near future.

So overall it leaves a sour taste in my mouth and isn't anything I'm interested in. I prefer Sony's TZ series by far.

Re: Macbook Air!

You may be right...But they look so fat, oldfashioned and conventional compared to that design and miniaturizing marvel!! And contrary to the Sony you mentioned, the Mac (like all Macs) is not here to work but to show off!
Anyway

My God this is one hell of a laptop!
Can you even put a CD into it, it is so slim!!!

Incredible!!

However, must be very fragile too, and how is it cooled? There is not even place for a ventilator in it!!!

Truly gorgeous...

True, this is more for over paid hair dressers wearing black turtle neck wanting something to show off at the local Starbuck. It doesn't have an optical drive, it cost 99 dollars extra.

No user replaceable battery
No user replaceable RAM or hard drive
Only one USB port
No optical drive
No Card reader
Mono speaker with the sound blasting through the keyboard
No Ethernet Port

IMO all that thinness or lack of components as I may put it, is not worth $1 700.

Re: Macbook Air!

I have to agree with Luw on this one....

It would be sweet if it cost around 600-900 bucks, sort of like a mac mini but a laptop version.

So this is not a laptop. This is a Palm Pilot with a bigger screen and no touchscreen...

Seriously, what can you do without optical drive, card reader, and with one miserable USB-port?

It looks good, but not enough to forget all these lacking features, especially at this price!
And its life expectancy is about 1 year 1/2, after that the battery is useless and it surely cost a crazy amount of money to let it replace by Apple...

Ecatly. Looking at it, it seems like Apple are expecting the buyers to replace it within 1-2 years. Further more the battery life isn't that great either. Other ultra portable laptops have twise the battery life and have the option of a higher capasity ones as well.

As for an optical drive it's a 99 dollar option, but the laptop does come a a software which allow you to borrow the optical drive sitting inside your Mac or PC. It all works over WiFi so it does require you to have a wireless router.

This really isn't meant to be your primary work horse but more of a compliment to your desktop for use when you're on the go. Sadly it's targeted at very small group of people making it one hell of an expensive product.
