My computer is tying to kill me!

Lately my computer has been playing up every time I turn it on it goes to the "blue screen of death" and will only work after about half an hours worth of restarting the computer

I have had someone look at it and even payed someone to look at it but it's still f*%ked up! I wouldn't be so bothered but at this moment in time I need my computer for studying and coursework and not having it working is really annoying me

Has anyone any suggestions before I loose hope and simply..buy a new computer

Anyone

I'm with The Artist on this one. Re-install Windows... back up all your data and then format the hard drive when installing. Of course, if you have too much money, you can always buy a Mac...

Re: My computer is tying to kill me!

Guess again

All these sites built and hosted in a Unix platform using the 'Unix' based Mac OS X .

If your accumulated time wasted on windows is worth less than buying a Mac (and you've got to figure this out by 'guesstimating' future crashes and frustration and headaches and all that endless waste of time installing drivers, and checking compatibilities every time you install something new (because in reality Microsoft is still selling you the stone-age DOS system disguised under Windows), then re-install it, and keep re-installing it forever every time you need to avoid the spammy BSOD or memory dumps. Just make sure you have a good backup system.
Now if you draw the line and realize what a piece of junk the Windows OS is, then buy/invest in a Mac -- For me it has been like 4 years without a single crash on a Mac I push to its limits on a daily basis.
Yes I can also run Windows emulated inside the Mac but guess what, once you get used to the Mac, Windows feels like an old clunker and you don't miss it at all (it may also be a good thing to learn and acclimate yourself on how to use a different OS so your brain gets accustomed to use both at anytime; it may come handy for any future jobs, college classes, etc, think of it as an additional learned skill ).

BTW, you don't need to spend a lot of $$ to get a Mac nowadays, you can get the Mini and use your current monitor, keyboard, and mouse from your existing computer until you decide to plunge in some $$$ for those great monitors they sell. Bottom line: your first investment (buying a MINI ) will cost you a lot less than buying a new PC
Oh and don't compare the Mac's memory and cpu speeds vs the PCs, it's like comparing apples and oranges, the Mac does not need that much 'power' to outperform a PC.

Yep, re-install Windows and hope for the best. You might have to do this several times.

There is such thing as too much money???

Re: My computer is tying to kill me!

I figured this would happen. Anyway, my experiences with Macs are exactly the opposite from you guys. A place I worked for had four of them (can't remember what exactly but back then they were quite new) and they kept crashing practically every single day (I'm not exaggerating here), and it's not like they were being pushed to the limit in any way... and the tech support was completely useless. I thought the OS was much more annoying than Windows, too. Modern Macs may be better (and without the hardware compatibility issues the old ones suffered) but I still don't see any reason to fork out the extra cash.

As for reinstalling Windows, my system still has the original XP I installed in 2004. The blue screen count is not into double figures yet, and none of those were of the inexplicable sort. I think I can live with that.
