![]() | Win 7 indeed looks promising. I have heard a lot of bad things about HP, and I myself could witness how poor their computers are. I had an entry-level HP laptop. It is thanks to it that I became aware of how computers work: it kept breaking down, malfunctionning, making weird things, freezing, slowing down, annoying me, bugging at me, scaring the hell out of me with beeping noises and messages... I'm currently running a Dell D620 with XP and Ubuntu (average use: 99.9% Ubuntu) which proved perfectly reliable so far. I'd advise you to reconsider buying an HP... Even their professional line-up, I think, is far from being recommendable. Dell Pro and IBM/Lenove are generally considered the best AFAIK. Last edited by coolraoul; 10-28-2009 at 12:17 PM. |

![]() | yeah, I agree, do a fresh install. Although most upgrades work fine, it's still better to do a full clean install. It will cost you a bit more, but in most cases the OS will be crisper and faster ( not much obviously, but noticeable) My HP is in for repair now ( first thing in 1.5 years, so can't wait to get it back, normally somewhere next week and install a retail version of W7 ) I 'm pretty happy with my HP, have the DV2750eb, 4 gigs of ram, 2.5 Ghz, 250 HDD, 14,1" screen, honestly never had any complaints ( stayed fast and reliable during this period ) untill it just suddenly broke down, really broke. I think it overheated and something broke inside. The problem is that it got really hot sometimes because the vents underneath it weren't thought through. The part were the HD sits is thicker than the rest of the laptop and sits almost directly on my desk ( the little stands on 4 corners can't help that) I bought some rubber stands to make it higher and have more air-flow under it but I think I was too late. If I had to buy a new laptop, damn, dell adamo XPS looks soooo sexy but internally it's too weak. I sure wouldn't know what to get. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm currently running the full version of Windows 7 Ultimate! It's much better than XP and a million times better than Vista! |
