Re: New objects

He he,

Well, it is my birthday tomorrow and I just received a birthday present from my mother.

The International Design Yearbook 2007. Notic, I'm sure you would really like it.

For car design there is The Car Design Yearbook.

Yes, she has really started to become mainstream rather than truly avant-garde. B&B is a very good manufacturer but they are very much aimed at the bourgeois market -- appealing to the tastes of the professional classes/upper-middle class. Hadid's new sofa is not really her most dramatic or exciting work but it will undoubtedly sell well in the market for which it is intended ...and become a "must have" object for fashionable young executives with stylish apartments.

Antonio Citterio is a clever designer I think. He has made millions of dollars for B&B Italia (and himself) by taking high-design ideas and toning them down to make them marketable and palatable for a wider market.

Patricia Urquiola is currently a favourite designer of mine, I like the simplicity of her objects, they have presence without self-consciously shouting for attention -- unlike so many contemporary design objects these days.

Re: New objects

Zaha hadid is pretty much everywhere these days, which is pretty undertandable since she is one hell of an architect and designer. My favorite project she is involved in is the houses at sagaponac which is a gigantic area in the Hamptons where 34 small houses are now being built.
Now there aren't your average upper middle class houses. The houses at Sagaponac are designed by very prestigious architects like Zaha Hadid, Lindy Roy, Stephan Kenner and Michael Rotondi just to name a few. Some of the houses have already been completed and have been sold for 3.5 to 6 million dollar.

I like Patricia Urquiola's flat sofa, especially the one with back support. Haven't seen anything like it, very innovative.

Ever since Rob introduced me to his favorite chairs I have become totally obsessed with contemporary vintage chair. Here are some of my favorite together with other objects I'm very fond of.
