Thanksgiving

So Diva where are you ordering your food from???

Right now only four of us this year. Me, mom, dad, and my dad's aunt.
We might have three more come, but don't think so.
Mom takes care of the food, I used to help clean the turkey, but mom knows not to let me help with that... "turkey dance"
So dad and I pick out the wine.

Re: Thanksgiving

Hey Guys!

I've been sick for so long, trying to get back to full speed little by little.
lost 10 lb in the process, now my clothes look big on me

As usual, instead of ordering I must cook, you know, dietary restrictions, no soy, no corn, no barley, etc...

We will have dinner with friends and relatives all 4 nights of the weekend, here, next door, in Orlando then back here, and we are hosting part of a BIG progressive diner party here at home to kick off Christmas season the first Saturday of December.

Thanksgiving Menu includes:

Roasted turkey breast ( I'm brining this baby tomorrow with a new formula)
with Cranberry- cabernet sauce, creamed spinach bake, rustic potatoes with mushroom chardonnay gravy.
We'll also have a bunch of other things my neighbor an her daughter are cooking, including a full turkey and more relishes and trimmings
Talk about stuffing!

I have not decided what pie to make yet... I think someone is bringing pumpkin pie, I'll probably make an apple pie or go wild with a ricotta limoncello pie.

It's only 7:30 Pm and I'm exhausted for the day, better than last week ( sleeping 18 hours a day

Hey Gullwing: how does the Turkey dance go? is it like the chicken dance?

Re: Thanksgiving

18 hours of sleep a day, wow.
This past week my mom and dad were both sick, both are almost better now.

Turkey dance: while mom was cleaning it out in the sink, removing all the junk and ice inside I would come over and make it dance. Grab the wings and have it jump around. I thought it was funny...

LOL yes! very funny

For a moment I thought you were doing the dance.

Are there any more "turkey junkies" on board? Or is it just Gull and I?

OK, that's it. I'm on my way to a flight for Florida. Please pick me up from the Tampa airport.

Re: Thanksgiving

Yep, happy Thanksgiving to all the American friends.

Diva, didn't know you were sick ... glad to hear you're better now.

Interesting, this Thanksgiving day. We do not celebrate it in our country.
Yet there is a similar holiday - it's called "Martinovo" (St. Martin's day) - 11/11 every year. It's a day when "St. Martin transforms water into wine" (when the fresh wine is ready) - so it makes it a wine celebration holiday.

There are festivals all over the country - more excessive in wine regions, a little less excessive elsewhere. Wine-makers presents their wines, and other home-made gourmet stuff (smoked meat, hams, salamis, pastry, cheese, pates, biscuits & cookies & cakes etc).

And to celebrate "Martinovo", every family is "obligated" to make a traditional "St. Martin's feast", which consists of:

  • roasted stuffed duck or goose
  • stewed red cabbage with apples
  • "matevz" (mashed potato with fried onion & cooked & mashed brown beans), or "mlinci" (some sort of baked sheets of pastry, than cooked briefly in seasoned water or soup, then served), or "žlikorofi" (some sort of stuffed pasta)
  • roasted apples with honey sauce (desert)
  • young & fresh wine
Or you can go into restaurant, and order it.

Problem: 11/11 is a regular working day, so people usually celebrate St. Martin on a weekend before 11/11.

Re: Thanksgiving

OOOOOO! sounds interesting!
Both the menu(s) and the water into wine part

It's great that young wines are enjoyed. Sometimes they are snobishly overlooked.
I was sick for almost the full month, getting better little by little

Mikael: Glad to have you come over to sunny Florida anytime.

We have "chilly" temperatures of 70 F or 21 degrees (Centigrade) BRRRR!

And now.. countdown till brining is done...24 Hrs
