Swallowed chicken bone?

Has anyone ever swallowed a piece of a chicken bone? I think I did today while I was eating a piece of chicken and now I am worried that something may happen to me. Any thoughts?

Re: Swallowed chicken bone?

I assume it wasn't big, am I right? If you're were able to easily swallow, I wouldn't worry to much about it effecting on you. You may, if you didn't already got one, get an aching tummy but I highly doubt it'll have an affect on you which will require you to get medical attention.

HAve you had any symptons since the intake of the bone?

I personally, have never swallowed a chicken bone, but have swallowed most everthing from plastic pop-bottle lids to money (change).

Re: Swallowed chicken bone?

Hey Michael:

This often happens with small children and this is the most effective method so far:

If you feel it's still in your thoat, eat a handfull of soft bread to surround it, once you swallow it will drag it down your esophagus.

If you still feel it's there, it's probably just a scratch the bone might have made on its way down.

Once in your stomach, the ACID will destroy it so there is no concern of it puncturing the rest of your digestive system.

Hope this helps and take care!

Re: Swallowed chicken bone?

Car Diva you are amazing. I had actually spoken to Mark right after I started this thread. I am somewhat of a hypochondriac (spelled correctly)

Bruce, I swallowed--I think--I small little piece that is under an inch long. I am amazed that you have swallowed those things. When did this happen? How? I am sure it was when you were young? Did you have to go to the hospital?

As far as feeling awful, I have somewhat felt odd, as if something is poking me in my stomach. Nevertheless, this may be the fact that I am thinking about it thus making me think that I am feeling something that is not the chicken bone but I make myself think it is.

Thanks guys for the support. Really.

Most of it happened when I was of a young age.

The reason as to why is that for the longest of time I've had an obsession with chewing all sorts of things. With these obsessions, I have naturally swallowed many things which I shouldn't have. The dumbest of them all, was chewing a blue-ink pen to the point of cracking open the ink cylinder . After an impromptu visit to the bathroom, I noticed my mouth was covered with blue ink and in the process, I had swallowed some blue dye without even realizing it.

Never went to the hospital for any of those things though. Surprisingly, the blue-ink digestion didn't make me the least bit sick

I get what you're saying.. sounds like it's merely physiological.

I don't mean to say this, but I just started cracking up thinking about you going to the bathroom and seeing all this blue dye around your mouth and wondering what the heck had happened to you. Tough guy man, tough guy.

Thanks , Michael.

BTW, the same method works for fish bones.

I know quite a bit about first aid and medicine, so feel free to ask.

Funny you should mention that Michael. With no intentions of bragging, I can honestly say that I hardly ever get sick.

Yeah, my father had to always tell me to stop chewing on everything. I also used to chew my shirt sleeves and collars like there was no tomorrow. Suffice to say, they (the shirts) were worn out in a week.
