Music of 2007

It's time to remember our favorite music of the soon to be past year.

2007's best:
Album: Nightwish - Dark Passion Play
Artist/producer: Sean Tyas
Track: Beats of Genesis vs. Legend B - Lost In Love (Sean Tyas Remix) or DJ Shah feat. Adrina Thorpe - Who Will Find Me. Can't decide.

Imo another bad year for pop, just nothing in it anymore. Just crap. Rock and hip hop has been good though and so has the trance scene. Probobly mostly because I've gone from hands up to trance and is still quite new to it and have alot to discover.

Re: Music of 2007

My favourites:

Album: Porcupine Tree - "Fear of A Blank Planet"
Genre: Progressive Rock/metal/etc
Producer: Porcupine Tree & Steve Wilson
Best Track: Technically, the best track is most probably "Anesthetize" which runs a full 17:00 minutes. And though I love it to death, my overall favourite is probably "Sleep Together" as it's use of synthesizers is truly unique.

Verdict:
All in all, a truly wonderful album. A tad darker (and heavier) than some of their previous works, but no less impressive. Not only is the production stunning, but there isn't one track that I'm not gung-ho on. Perfection all around!

Tracks:
  1. "Fear of a Blank Planet" – 7:28
  2. "My Ashes" (Music: Wilson/Barbieri) – 5:07
  3. "Anesthetize" – 17:42
  4. "Sentimental" – 5:26
  5. "Way Out of Here" (Music: Barbieri/Edwin/Harrison/Wilson) – 7:37
  6. "Sleep Together" – 7:28
Sample: "Fear of A Blank Planet"

Album: Rush - "Snakes & Arrows"
Genre: Progressive Rock
Producer: Nick Rasculinecz
Best Track: Absolutely impossible to answer this question. "Far Cry" is just bloody exciting, while "Workin' Them Angels" gets me fired up like few others. "Good News First" is highly unrated, while the two instrumentals - "The Main Monkey Business" & Malignant Narcisssim" are just perfection. I love all 13 songs just about equally!

Verdict:
I'm not even sure If I can even explain how wonderful I think this album is. After 30+ years of making music and after 19 studio albums, one might imagine that they'd run out of steam, but such is not true. Truth be told, S&A is probably their best album since the late 80's.

The production is amongst the best I've ever heard, and the songs are dynamically interesting. Definitely not a one-note pony; included styles are blues, acoustic, country, Middle Eastern, traditional rock, etc.

It's not only my favourite album released this year, but it's one of my all time favourites.

Tracks:
  1. "Far Cry" - 5:18
  2. "Armor and Sword" - 6:36
  3. "Workin' Them Angels" - 4:46
  4. "The Larger Bowl (A Pantoum)" - 4:07
  5. "Spindrift" - 5:23
  6. "The Main Monkey Business" - 6:01
  7. "The Way the Wind Blows" - 6:28
  8. "Hope" (Lifeson) - 2:02
  9. "Faithless" - 5:31
  10. "Bravest Face" - 5:12
  11. "Good News First" - 4:51
  12. "Malignant Narcissism" - 2:17
  13. "We Hold On" - 4:13
Sample: "Far Cry" & "The Main Monkey Business"
