Re: Mumbai Terrorist Attacks

Bastards strike again.
I have been watching it all day-ish.
Numbers keep going up.
They were asking people for their passport. I think the US needs to issue pistols as passports. But that is just me.

Any guesses on where next?

Re: Mumbai Terrorist Attacks

I think this attack was intended to intensify animosity between Hindus and Muslims. India is a relatively harmonious multi-cultural society but there is some tension between Hindus and Muslims.

R.I.P to all of those who lost their lives. I hope justice is swift and painful for the perpetrators. Another reminder of how dangerous this world has become. Sometimes I wonder if we truly are superior to the other animals that roam this earth.

While I am currently in the US studying, I am a resident of Mumbai and know the places quite intricately. I don't know anybody personally who was caught in this situation but have friends of friends and the likes who are either caught currently or were close enough to the area.

I don't mean to marginalize any of the other attacks which constantly keep propping up over India recently but this one seems to have shook me and those who I have been in contact with back home. I don't think its entirely because I know the places but because of the clear co-ordination with which it is taking place. It just makes me sad that Mumbai nay India will be a very different place when I go back.

I must say I am shocked at one of the things which haven't quite been mentioned in the western media. From what I have been reading all over and through phone calls, the hotel staff has been absolutely exceptional in helping the people. They were the ones who guided all the people to back rooms, locked themselves out and assisted people. Even waiters were the ones taking charge which honestly goes way beyond the job description. Again, I don't want to marginalize the role of the police or army or navy in any form but this shows a lot of courage. I read of someone being taken in for safety (an Indian) at a hotel which wasn't involved and given a place to sleep overnight and food without being charged even after offering to pay.

I seem to have missed the point of the post but it was as a reply to Hypersonic. This attack clearly isn't Muslim-Hindu like the others were. From the reports and the clear locale of the targets, its very clear that this was targeted towards Westerners (Americans and Britishers). The two hotels are the best in the city and Leopold cafe, which was another target, is one of the hotspots for backpackers.

Hindu-Muslim is quite moot with respect to Mumbai. There is tension but Mumbai is very much a cosmopolitan city where communal violence is very limited and the people live in harmony other than the few people who wreck havoc.

Re: Mumbai Terrorist Attacks

I was reading/ hearing the same reports, that it it targeted to Americans and Brits. Sad, sad, sad...

My description/ statement regarding the terrorists is borrowed from a 5-year-old:

Those guys are a dirty trash can filled with poop
