It's Halloween TIME!!

Then Thanksgiving, then Christmas, or whatever you celebrate.

You know, Christmas is not dead, it's what you make it, for us it's a time to slow down and celebrate with food and family. Gifts, are intranscendental to my immediate family and friends, and that's that is important.

The act of staying up very late sipping on spiced wine , joking and laughing is simply priceless! The celebration is so special to all of us we look forward to it all year long.

one thing though.... my cats get a lot of gifts!!!!
Forgot to mention that over here in England theres Bomb fire night

One of my favorite times of the year

Oh btw...lucky cats

Thanksgiving is the 4th Thursday in Nov. every year. We give thanks for the first few pilgrims breaking away from the British and the naïveté of the native people to help them survive. Most people bake a nice large turkey and have lots of other food, potatoes, stuffing, green beans, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie……….
The day before is the most traveled day of the year, and thanksgiving is the number one reason turkeys exist.

Re: When is it too early to celebrate Christmas??

Thanksgiving is a non-religious Holiday celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November ( like Gullwing said)
Kids are off from school and it's a federal Holiday.

The best part is the next day (FRIDAY) is also a holiday, the biggest shopping day of the year and there's a lot of football on TV , and a lot of Christmas trees , lights etc going up.

It does commemorate the harvest and collaboration among settlers and natives. They put aside thier differences made peace and cellebrated it by breaking bread, a feast like they has not seen before in times of famine.

What is done nowadays is to try and emulate that feast by eating somewhat was avilable back in those times:
turkey or duck, corn, cornbread, cranberries, squash, potatoes and pumpkin. The was also maple and apples available so some sweet stuff gets in the mix.

Of course, most has been bastardized and so now most people have mashed potatoes from a box, pumkin from a can, fried turkey, store bought crap...

The important part is that it's non- denominational, so people ( regarless of creed) participate. And what we cellebrate is exactly what its name says: Thanksgiving: we give thanks for all our food, possesions, family.

A wonderful celebration!

If you are ever in the states , come over we'll have a great feast!

Yes for Diva the day after Thanksgiving is her (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, 4th of July, Labor day... No other day of the year matters to her, unless there is a big sale on that day. She is very happy for the next month until the new year comes and the novelty of all her new stuff wears off.

There isn't any football on Friday, but there are two games on Thanksgiving (gives the guys something to do).

For a while there was a family living in one of the houses across the street. The wife loved christmas trees. The husband made her take it down around March I think. He then went on travel a few months later June/Julyish and it went back up. It stayed up until they moved.

Wow! that doesn't make any sense!

Even if you get a live tree now, I doubt it will still be good for Christmas.

I mean it's winter here, and summer down under, is it hot already?

Absolutely, it was 36 degrees C or 98.6 F yesterday. Today is better, at 22 degrees C, but the temp will pick up again.

I have no idea why people will want to buy a tree now, but the shop has massive "discount" signs everywhere. I don't think they are live ones, I didn't check because I only drove by the shop and saw this rather skinny Santa Clause screaming "discount christmas tree".
