When is it too early to celebrate Christmas??

I am very very extremely annoyed by this phenomenon. Christmas is getting earlier as each year goes by. It all started last week when I see advertisements for Christmas cook books, for f*ck sake, Christmas is still more than 2 months away. This week, the wave of attacks are starting to become more common as I see more Christmas related ads on TV. It is the 28th of October now, which is way too early for any Christmas related issue. It will only get worse as November approaches. To me these are all pathetic money grabbing tactics by businesses which has no shame at all.

So guys, when do you think is the correct time to celebrate a festival ? IMO, it should not be earlier than a month from the actual event.

Re: When is it too early to celebrate Christmas??

We officially start Thankgiving weekend. We usually start pulling stuff out while waiting for the turkey or the next day.
We believe that Christmas season is the day after Thanksgiving to the 6th of Jan.
Remember the song 12 days of Christmas. The first day is the 25th and the 12th is the 6th.
But most stop all Christmas stuff Dec 25th at 6PM.
There is one radio station in town that place Christmas music none stop from sometime in Nov until Dec 25. Two years ago they stopped right at 6pm and last year made it until midnight.

Then again once we find fresh cranberries in the store, it good enough for me. Cranberries, simple syrup, vodka, (oranges if wanted) mix up and let sit for a month in a jar. So good.
Though we just found them in the store last week so add a month start of Christmas.

Well, the stores here pulled out the Christmas decorations last week, which I find utterly ridiculous... (OK, it wasn't exactly here but further up north in Rovaniemi, a town which thrives on Christmas tourism). I'd say that the beginning of December is when I really start thinking about Christmas. That's also the time when I start panicking because I have no idea what the people in my life would like for Christmas presents.

That is why I am annoyed. All these shameless businesses are coming out with their sharp claws around this year, and it seems to get earlier and earlier. It is ridiculous to mention the word Christmas when it is still almost 2 months away.

I am not familiar with thanksgiving, we don't celebrate that over here. So when does it start, and what do people do, is it related to Christmas at all or is it a stand alone Christian thing?

They really need to get the Evil Santa theme going, Halloween+Christmas in one go. Hell add the evil easter bunny in it as well. They might as well throw Easter in, since it is ''only'' 4 months after Christmas.

Re: When is it too early to celebrate Christmas??

Yes way to ealy for Christmas!

It's Halloween TIME!!

Then Thanksgiving, then Christmas, or whatever you celebrate.

You know, Christmas is not dead, it's what you make it, for us it's a time to slow down and celebrate with food and family. Gifts, are intranscendental to my immediate family and friends, and that's that is important.

The act of staying up very late sipping on spiced wine , joking and laughing is simply priceless! The celebration is so special to all of us we look forward to it all year long.

one thing though.... my cats get a lot of gifts!!!!
