Hello donau,

I am sorry you lost your dog called Custard today. I guess for some people, losing a pet is not considered to be a big emotional deal. But for others (like us) it is losing a close family member and is very traumatic. Animals are wonderful to share your life with I think ...they make you a better person.

Sorry to hear about the death of your JRT. I am so attached to Frankie, I don't know how I'll react or feel when his time comes. They're such fun and loyal little buddies. I treat him as if he were my little baby brother.

The good thing is that I never liked the taste of oranges anyway. Kiwifruit on the other hand tastes pretty good, especially with a Raisin fruit juice sauce and Strawberries.

Rob, sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. I can certainly relate. I lost my 13 year 10.5 month old German Shephard, Chaka, on Oct 26, 2006 and also lost his daughter Custard (12 yr 7 mth) this morning. Still have Custard's mother with me who is now 15 years and 2+ months. She is a German Shephard mix (the mix was supposed to be wolf - but I don't know about that). Pretty much feels as if one lost a child.

Sorry to hear about your German Shepard. Reminds me of the German Shepard my parents had when I was a few months old. They took a ton of pictures of me riding on her back and being licked by her. I can't remember her obviously but the pictures speak for themselves. Her name was Riva and she died when our dog-hating neighbour poisened her food. Why some people hate animals, I don't know!?

Agreed. Dogs and cats are certainly equal (or better) family members. I have lost several very close human family members, and losing one of my 4 legged family members does not feel any easier than losing a human family member.
And I also agree with your last statement about our animals making people better, no question about that.

I am sorry to hear about Riva. Hope one day there will be legislation everywhere to punish people who harm, torture or kill animals, that at the very least matches the severity of the punishments in force for humans perpetrating crimes like that.

BTW. How did she get her name? The reason for asking is that maybe 30 years ago there was an Italian soccer/football player called Riva.

I feel the same way as you about these animal haters. About a year ago, there was a story in one of the newspaper here off how some deranged $%^@^# cut off the ears of his puppy Rottweiler dog because it kept crying. His defense was: "I didn't know that would hurt him." He got off with a ridiculous 1,000 Euro fine. If I was the judge, I'd be so tempted to have this guy's ears cut off and then tell him: "Sorry buddy, I didn't know this would hurt."

I think my parents just came up with the name themselves. Both of them are not soccer fans, so they probably didn't hear about Riva. Our next dog was called Rambo though.

I know how you feel. These guys are just getting off with a little slap on the wrist and that's it....It's pathetic.....

Sorry for your loss donau. I lost my Barney in October at 12+ and they are part of the family. It is difficult to deal with....
