General Photo Competition #141

Rules:

• The submitted picture must have been taken by the submitter.
• Only one photograph per person and per week is permitted.
• The submitted photograph may not be changed once it has been entered.
• There are 5 days to submit your photograph, a poll will be created after five days for people to vote on. (Voting from Friday morning to Monday morning, then a new thread will be created Monday morning for entry)
• Your image must be a resolution of 1024*768 or lower. If it is not, your picture will not be in the voting thread.
• In the interest of fairness, entrants may not vote for their own photograph.
• The photograph should be submitted with: A Title, the date, and the type of camera.
• Photoshop and other image editing softwares: Levels, Curves, Colour Balance, Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation, cropping, or anything else possible in the development process or with filters and common special lenses is permitted . Other adjustments and effects (Color Selective - pending) are not permitted.

Hey Rob,

I think that the General Photo comp is really losing interest (well thebyte in general is). I've created 2 threads over that GCF's Photography section discussing two ideas:
1. Photo Feedback & Tips thread
2. Photoshop: Before & After thread

I know that neither of these are competition threads, but the majority of these photo may be posted over at GCF now with valuable feedback. I just don't see much of a future of the General Photo Comp if it continues to be kept here at thebyte.

Do you know who I can contact to try and get the General Photo Comp' put back at GCF? Admin maybe? ... I'm just not sure who to bring it up with..but I would love these General Photo Comps to continue, but it's sad that it has been deteriorating over here at thebyte.

We need to try and suggest idea's to get thebyte back up again, not shove everything back to GCF.

We need Admin/Marks input and I'm guessing he is away at this moment in time.

Contact the Admin. You are welcome to take control of the Photo Comps at GCF -- I have retired from there.

There really is only one sure way of attracting GCF members to thebyte -- and that is by giving them extra credit points at GCF for posting here. For example, if they got 2 karma/thanks points (at GCF) for every post at thebyte -- I guarantee that would increase traffic here among certain members.

That's the best idea, but I wonder how committed to thebyte Admin/Mark is. I get the feeling thebyte was created to filter-out Off-topic threads from GCF.

I know I don't participate at thebyte much, but from what I see, there are only 2 or 3 threads which are ever active simultaneously at thebyte, so these can easily be put back over at GCF.

I agree though that thebyte should try to stand on its own two feet, and as sad as it might sound, I gotta agree with Rob on his suggestion. How are the other sister-forums doing? I imagine they're okay since they are still automotive related.

That was the original idea I believe. However, the admin has added several features to thebyte in order to develop it as an independent site.

The main problem with an "Off Topic" forum like thebyte is that it is difficult to attract new members when there is no specific purpose or topic for the forum. Most people look to join forums where they can find like-minded people who share a common interest.

thebyte does have the potential to develop its own community separate from GCF ....but we may have to be creative with the Topics etc. in order to attract members.

I would suggest that some GCF members don't post here because they have to log in separately -- people can be very lazy -- it might help if when they log in to GCF ...it simultaneously logs in to thebyte. I'm sure it did that when it started ..if my memory is correct.
