cool, theres more tag heuer fans/owners here than i thought. tag makes great watches. i've had my tag heuer link for a long time now and like martinbo said, it'll take whatever you can throw at it. i wore mine into a super hot sauna, on the sub-zero ski hill and i even took i diving. this watch will last.

Fantastic. The Link series is a notch above the Carrera, if I had the money I would consider it. But I like the Carrera's clean, uncluttered design and the unusually large diameter of the face as well. I did a criteria-based search on the TAG Heuer website and they brought me to the Carrera Automatic Chronograph and the Link Calibre 36.

Do TAG Heuer chronographs have lifetime warranties?

Re: The most expensive watch in the world.

Oh boy! Did somebody say wristwatches?!

I'm going to make it my personal duty to inflate this thread to 30+ pages...

Anyways, Mirage77 - TAG Heuer make some rather nice watches, and they also make some crummy, almost vulger watches - at least from an hourology fanatic's point of view. What's especially appealing about TAGs is that they can be worn by young guys with a straight face. There's some good pieces available from competing brands like Omega and IWC, but they typically lack the element of "blue-collar testosterone" I enjoy seeing in watches. Detailing on TAGs run the gamut. Some are fantastic, and others leave you wondering why they didn't hire a skilled face designer.

Bad news is - there's virtually no good TAGs to be had south of US $600. The Carerra you pictured is an expensive piece. I'd expect it to retail for somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,800, and you'd be hard pressed to find it legitimately auctioned on Ebay for less than $1,200.

GOOD NEWS IS - I've discovered a truely fantastic TAG that's not terribly hard on the wallet, and can be had for a resonable price: The 2003 Aquaracer Automatic.

The markings on this watch are spot-on for a diver's-style watch, and who the hell doesn't like an automatic movement with a second hand sweep? The going retail is about $850, but they can be found all over Ebay for a good deal less. You may even be able to score one new, or nearly new for less than $600.

I've probably shown everybody a thousand times, but here's my watch:

I'm toying with the thought of getting the Aquaracer I mentioned above, but what I really want now is a black-faced Monaco with a metal band:

Ok that's it. Somebody start an argument about watches for cryin' out loud. This'll be fun!

Re: The most expensive watch in the world.

What a nice watch you have Osna, I like it. How much did it cost? Unfortunaately the looks of the 2003 Aquaracer Automatic doesn't exactly make me jump out of my chair. It's more or less a "nice" watch and nothing else and for $800 I expect a watch to be more distinctive. I really hate buying watches since I'm very picky and the truth is buying a watch is a very difficult task since there are to many "nice" watches to choose from.

I don't know which watch I'm going to buy next but I want it to have brown leather strap, prefably with larges holes in it(pilot inspired). Since pictures say more than a thousand words I want it to look like the Louis Vuitton watch below. The brand offers some really fantastic looking watches but unfortunately their watches are quite expensive. The watch below retails for 4k which is far from what I can afford but I trying to find a look-a-like which cost less than $600.

Re: The most expensive watch in the world.

I think I'm quite set on the Carrera Automatic Chronograph. I'll find the money, somehow... Christmas can have its advantages.

In Singapore, I can get a brand new piece for about SGD2800, or approximately USD1687. I just love it.

The Aquaracer has an image of "young hippie divers" that doesn't connect with me at all. Although I saw a few which was quite suitable, I didn't really like the "constipated" face, so to speak, or rather, cluttered face of the Aquaracer. I like the simplicity of your Link.

I don't have much affinity for squarish watch faces - not feeling for that bracelet either - but the Monaco is a very distinctive watch.

I've always thought LV manufactured "fashion watches", rather than "engineered watches", if you know what I mean. Where are they manufactured?

That Tambour model is really nice.

Re: The most expensive watch in the world.

Don't confuse LV with other designer brand like Dolce & Gabbana and DKNY who don't produce their watches and simply buy cheap OEM watches from Korea and China and stamp their brand and made in Italy on them. LV on the other hand actually produces their timepieces and they are off course Swiss-made. LV is together with Rolex, RR some of the of the most prestigius brands in the world and their bags where even with on the actual Titanic boat. The really know what top notch quality is all about and buy looking at their products it is clear that they know what good design too.

Anyhow I have found my next watch and it's a Tissot PRC200 which looks extreamly good and can either be hooked up with a leather or steel strap. The best thing with it is that the price isn't too crazy at all, only $300.
