A mechanical or automatic watch is a work of art! It's so complex, so wonderfully thought, the result of centuries of constant improvements... The sheer craftmanship, the attention to every detail, it's wonderful. And I love the tic-tac it makes... There's something in a mechanical clock that makes it irresistible. No servicing for 10 years, wow! Impressive! I like Omega very much. I'll try to post pics this WE of my watches. My Dad had a vintage Breitling, with an automatic movement, but he sold it because it was too heavy for him. And as he did not wear it regularly, it was always stopped when he wanted to take it... So I said him to take a look at Seiko, the Kinetic movement is very practical, the advantages of the automatic and of the Quartz. But it's only an improved Quartz watch, so it does nothing to me. | |

![]() ![]() | Re: Watches I have a Bulova Marine Star since about 2002 I think, and well that watch has been given hell so it looks and is pretty beat up, but it still works like a charm and I have grown used to having that heavy thing in my left arm so I feel odd when I go out without it. Yes, the date frame is out of place because of one time that I feel and my watch hit hard the floor...but well everything else is fine and I have it as my "beater" watch as I am looking forward to getting a nicer one for events that demand it. ![]() ![]() Here you can appreciate the years of abuse and savagery. ![]() Though I also love my dad's Bulova Millenia, the back of it is transparent so you can see the automatic mechanism. On a side note, I don't know anything about watches but I also wanted to share this with you. It's a Hamilton that used to belong to my grandpa, it was given to him I believe after 25 or 30 years of working at the Packard assembly plant, it even has a recognition written where they thank my grandpa's efforts and years of service. It means a lot to me since I never got to meet the old man, my dad has told me to never ever pawn it or anything and for sure I won't, I like to know that car stuff runs in the family since my dad worked assembling Corvairs...although instead of building them, I want to photograph the finished product for a living. |
