I have always loved the 300m Seamaster. My parents have always wanted me to get a Rolex, I guess to follo in family tradition, but I must move aside and go with the Omega. I just like Omega and what they have become.

I don' think Rolex is enough "exclusive" for Rolls-Royce if you know what I mean. Robert might know what make would match the RR best...

RR is a very ver exclusive brand and it is not everyday you see a Rolls. although Rolex might be on paar with RRs exclusivity Rolex is still a brand for the very wealthy ones.
I've seen people with Omega, Tag Heuer and Breitling watches but I don't recall spoting anyone with a Submariner the latest months.

I love watches! If only I could afford a nice one

For now I have my mind set on a CF Formula 1 watch, but I will probobly not buy a watch for at least 2-3 years.

Re: I just bought a Breitling Tourbillon.

Great thread Lu! You know I love to talk watches!

Funny you'd bring up this thread, because I'm fixin' to buy add a new watch to my collection next month and Seamasters have been on my list. I especially have been thinking about the Seamaster Planet Ocean after seeing 'Casino Royale' last weekend.

Tell you what - Those those Seamaster chronographs shown below are by no means "cheap" watches. Those things retail for over $4,000 and ebay for over $3,000 in near-new condition.

As for the Breitling Turbillion - forget it! It's hand built, and probably sells for at least $50,000, probably more.

Lu, Rolex is by no means an exclusive brand. They produce anywhere from 700,000 to 900,000 watches annually, and if you hang in certain circles you'll quickly notice that Submariners and Datejusts are nearly dirt common.

Ever since the 80s, Rolex has successfully been able to push an image of boutique craftsmanship onto their mass-produced wares, and middle-class professionals who have just arrived spring for them like scout badges. For the most part, they're finely crafted watches (Rolex automatic movements are some of the most reliable in the business), and the Rolex brand has a very strong pedigree, but they're by no means in league with Rolls Royce.

A proper RR tie-in brand should at least be a top-tier brand like Lange & Sohne. Even better would be connoisseur's brand like Philippe Dufour.

Then again - the new Rolls Royce is so synonymous with celebrity and new money that Rolex could be a more appropriate tie-in than I give it credit for. It shouldn't be though.

The Seamaster Professional is getting pretty dated. It was worn by Pierce Brosnan since a while ago, and is hopefully is on its way out of the 007 collection.

Daniel Craig also rocks the new Seamaster Planet Ocean. in 'Casino Royale', and it's a damn good looking watch. I'm seriously thinking of getting one soon - not sure about which size or color, but I'm bending twoards black face/bezel with a steel band like shown below.

And here's the official 007 watch that Omega just released:

To me it's funny how the "limited" edition 007 Seamasters will fetch a higher price than their standard-issue siblings. To me, there's something extremely tacky about wearing a $3,000 movie tie-in on your wrist. I mean... do you think that James Bond's watch said "007" on it too? Gimme a break.

Still, the "007" minute hand is pretty subtle, and doesn't ruin the watch. I'll take the standard-issue though.

I got to admit though, those watches are works of art inside and out. I'm perfectly happy with my digital Casio though.

Congrats on the purchase!

Re: I just bought a Breitling Tourbillon.

i like this pic is very much

Anyway, i will never buy a watch with bracelet! I just don't like it. I want to feel leather around my arm

Now i am not at my best financial situation, so spending many $$$ on a watch is not a smart move! I'd like to buy one of those one day though. Such a watch, you don't buy it for you, but you will inherite it to your children..
