And then they robbed themselfs in the wars they started Its like 8 years ago a blind old woman was appointed as a guard of the treasarury and ever since then ppl have just sneaked by her to rob the publics cash.. Sad sad situation.. And these 2 who are running and fighting for their lifes to become president I hope they realise that whatever they do, it will still not be enough and they will look bad.. 4 years is not enough to clean the canvas of CRAP Mr Bush has painted over the last 8 years |

![]() ![]() | Re: Should the US government be bailing out the US financial system? Several years ago one party wanted to pass a bill to regulate Fannie and Freddy. All members of that party voted to pass the bill, but it was blocked by all members of the other party. The bill did not have enough votes to move to the Senate. It could have prevented a lot of what is going on. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Should the US government be bailing out the US financial system? I definitely agree with everyone's opinion that the Government really has no choice but to bail out the economy and certain troubled corporations. The whole idea of a 'free market' is great in theory and works well when things are going along just fine..but when big corporations can't even look after their own future, then the Government has to step in simply to ensure that the economy doesn't collapse into a depression (let's hope the media don't start using the 'D' word soon, goodness knows how much panic that will cause). What's everyone's opinion on Congress blocking that multi-billion dollar rescue package? I think the US economy desperately needs that huge cash injection just to keep things stable and of course to maintain whatever confidence the public has in the recovery of the economy. For a person who'll be migrating to the States within the next 6 months, I gotta say I'm a tad nervous...mainly in terms of job prospects. But hey, apart from the 'D' word, there's only one other direction for the economy to go..and that's up........................ hopefully. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Should the US government be bailing out the US financial system? I agree with the general opinion here. The markets will be extremely nervous until something concrete results from the negotiations. People are acting like hysteric lemmings. Every time they hear a negative rumor about a certain company they immediately take all their money out of that company. They make their decisions on speculation. Even companies that have just reported excellent results considering the market situation see their share plunging. It's full domino-effect right now. Subprime mortgages were the major cause for this crisis but investment banks should have also been put under stricter regulation a long time ago. Sure, it would have resulted less impressive results but it would also have prevented the absurd risks they took with derivatives and structured debt products that they didn't even understand themselves. |
